NATO has introduced its new Innovation Fund, aiming to invest up to €1 billion in high-tech start-ups, with a focus on defence and security-oriented initiatives. Poland seeks to play

a pivotal role in this project, as announced during the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. While the fund's headquarters are located in Amsterdam, its regional divisions will be established in London and Warsaw, with Warsaw chosen as one of the three office locations. The preparations for this groundbreaking institution have been underway for the past two years, and it has now received the green light to proceed.

The NATO Innovation Fund, with a substantial €1 billion budget, aims to support the development and practical application of new technologies. While priority will be given to defence-related initiatives, breakthrough inventions with civilian applications will also be supported. During the NATO Public Forum held at the Vilnius summit, NATO Deputy Secretary-General Mircea Geoană emphasized the importance of keeping up with the latest technological advancements.

Poland has taken a leading role in the effort by investing €42 million in the fund. The selection of Warsaw as one of the office locations is expected to bring numerous opportunities for innovation-oriented Polish companies and start-ups. Experts believe this move can lead to significant developments and exciting prospects for local companies involved in cutting-edge technology. Marcin Ociepa, the Polish Deputy Defence Minister, highlights the growing significance of technological advancements, emphasizing their decisive role on the modern battlefield, as demonstrated by Ukraine's defense against Russia's invasion.

By participating in initiatives like the NATO Innovation Fund, the Polish Ministry of Defence aims to provide support for local innovators and offer Polish scientists the opportunity to transform their ideas into reality.
