The Documentation Centre for Political Islam (DPI) has warned about the extremist content of the Lebanese broadcaster al-Manar in its report “Hezbollah in Europe – Media and
Mobilisation,” published today. According to the study, the broadcaster poses a particular concern for the German-speaking region.
While the channel’s content is blocked in Germany, it can still be accessed in Austria and Switzerland. The report especially criticises the dissemination of anti-Western, antisemitic and anti-imperialist narratives.
Al-Manar is considered to be closely aligned with the Hezbollah militia, which is backed by the Iranian regime. The organisation’s military wing is classified by the EU as a terrorist organisation. The broadcaster reports on global developments in Arabic, English, Spanish and French.
According to the DPI report, al-Manar covered the rampage in Graz in June 2025 and the attack on the Advent market in Magdeburg in December 2024, as well as debates on veil bans in various countries.
However, al-Manar’s video and text content is not available in German. For its analysis of the broadcaster’s reporting, the DPI drew on material from international media outlets such as AFP, CNN and Sky News, as well as Russian propaganda channels Sputnik and Russia Today, the report states.
