Nearly one-third of all overnight stays in tourist accommodation across the European Union in 2025 were concentrated in just two months, highlighting the continued dominance

of the summer holiday season.

Eurostat said 31.1% of all overnight stays were recorded in July and August, the busiest months for tourism in every EU country. The pattern reflects a combination of favourable weather, geographical factors and school holiday schedules across Europe.

Croatia recorded the strongest seasonal concentration, with 54.5% of all overnight stays taking place during July and August. Bulgaria followed with 43.4%, while Greece registered 41.6%.

At the opposite end of the scale, tourism demand was spread more evenly throughout the year in Malta, where the two peak months accounted for 21.9% of overnight stays. Germany (24.0%) and Finland (24.1%) also showed relatively low levels of seasonality.

August remained the busiest month for tourism across the bloc. The number of overnight stays that month was 3.6 times higher than in January, the quietest month of the year.

The contrast was particularly sharp in some of Europe's most seasonal destinations. Croatia recorded 41.1 times more overnight stays in August than in January, while Greece saw August accommodation demand reach 20.5 times January levels.
